Blackburn Musical Theatre Company returns following the rip-roaring, whip-cracking success of 2023 show Calamity Jane, with the jubilant and heart-felt musical SUNSHINE ON LEITH – a story about the power of home, family and love, featuring the songs of The Proclaimers.
Sunshine On Leith follows the highs and lows of Ally and his pal Davy as they search for normality after returning from a tour in Afghanistan. Families, friendships and life are not all plain sailing in the funny and moving story about love and life.
Ally's marriage proposal is rejected by his childhood sweetheart, a nurse disillusioned with the state of the NHS who plans a move to the US to further her career. Meanwhile, Davy gets a call centre job, while his parents war over the discovery, years on, of his father's infidelity.
Sunshine On Leith is a vibrant, energetic musical, loved by audiences and critics alike, which had a successful film adaptation in 2013 starring Jane Horrocks and George MacKay, and directed by Dexter Fletcher.

Sign Along with Us was started by Jade Kilduff BCAc, for her little brother Christian. He has a type of brain injury called HIE, this was caused by him being still born for 24 minutes.
Christian also has Cerebral Palsy , visual impairments, global development delay and sensory processing disorder but above all of that, he is just the most incredible little boy.
They were told that Christian would never be able to communicate but Jade just didn’t want to give up, so she decided to start signing with him and eventually after 18 months he signed back.
Since then he has come so far and can now sign and say lots of words. He is just a miracle. Jade and Christian wanted to share everything they knew with the world, in the hope that they would learn some sign language too, so then it would help Christian and other people like him to not feel isolated and to be able to communicate with more people.
They decided to set up Sign Along With Us and started posting signing videos online.
Due to the positive reaction we decided to take it further and start teaching classes at the local community centre and this is where we got our amazing Sign Along With Us Choir together.
We just knew it was such a special group where everyone was included and could be themselves. We wanted to share our group with as many people as possible in the hope to inspire them to learn some sign language as well as to showcase all of the amazing people who have overcome different difficulties and challenges in their life but now have been able to stand proud and say THIS IS ME!!
This is our second performance at the Empire Theatre and after such a lovely welcome last time thought that it would be good to say ‘A Sign Along With US Happy New Year’ in such a lovely venue to kick start our 2024 fundraising journey.
