After conquering the epic 874-mile trek to Lands End two years ago, Blackburn Empire board member Howard Jones isn’t ready to sit still. This time, he’s setting his sights (and footsteps) north, embarking on a virtual walk from John O’Groats which aims to raise £5,000 for a cause close to his heart: protecting the historic roof of the Blackburn Empire Theatre. His last effort helped the theatre create its updated look, with fabulous new signage.
The Empire, a beloved landmark near Ewood Park, desperately needs a new roof. Years of “patch-up” solutions have reached their limit, and Howard’s determined to help secure its future. He’s laced up his virtual walking boots and started clocking up the miles on January 1st, with 182 days to reach his 874-mile target by the end of June.
Why is this so important? The Blackburn Empire Theatre is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a vibrant hub for the community, offering a diverse range of performances, from musicals and plays to comedy nights and concerts. It’s a place for laughter, tears, and shared experiences, shaping memories for generations of Blackburn residents.
How can you help? Every donation, big or small, brings Howard closer to his goal. Contribute to his fundraising campaign and be a part of this incredible journey.
Together, we can ensure the curtain continues to rise at the Blackburn Empire Theatre for years to come.
