“Memphis Comes to Manchester!” is how BBC Radio 1 DJ Andy Peebles described STAX of SOUL back in the 90s, and this legendary 9-piece live soul band is still going strong! On Saturday, 26th October, they’re bringing their vibrant, soulful sound to the Blackburn Empire Theatre as part of their ongoing Legacy Tour.
A Four-Decade Journey of Soul Music
Established in 1983, STAX of SOUL has been a staple of the North West’s live music scene for over 40 years. After a whirlwind, sold-out 40th Anniversary Tour in 2023, the band continues to share their love of soul music across the UK, and this weekend they return to East Lancashire. Many of the current lineup, including frontman Stuart Widdall, were there during the wild nights at Martholme Grange and other iconic venues. Despite some lineup changes and a 6-year hiatus, their passion for music has never faded.
“We Still Love What We’re Doing”
Reflecting on the band’s long-standing career, Stuart Widdall says, “The soul music we all love has kept us going, but we also feel it’s a great achievement to still be out there after 40 years. When we see the excitement of our audiences, and the enjoyment on their faces, we feel like we’d like to carry on for another 40 years. We still love what we’re doing and will always put on a brilliant show.”
