Blackburn Empire Theatre is a volunteer led charity. From welcoming audiences at the doors to serving drinks at the bar and helping behind the scenes, our volunteers keep the theatre running – and we would love you to join them.
You do not need theatre experience – just a friendly attitude and a few hours to spare. Training and support are provided.
What do volunteers do at Blackburn Empire
As a volunteer led theatre and charity we rely on our volunteers to help every performance run smoothly. There are lots of ways to get involved – you can choose the roles that suit your interests and confidence.
Typical volunteering roles include:
- Front of house – welcoming audiences, checking tickets, helping people find their seats and making sure everyone has a great night.
- Bars and refreshments – serving drinks and snacks before the show and during the interval and keeping the foyer area looking its best.
- Meet and greet – creating a friendly first impression for visitors and assisting anyone who needs a little extra help.
- Backstage and technical support – helping our team prepare the theatre for performances and community events.
- Maintenance and DIY – supporting the upkeep of our historic building with practical tasks and projects.
You can volunteer as often or as little as you are able – many people start with one or two shifts each month and adjust as they go. We plan rotas in advance so you can fit volunteering around work, study and family life.
