About our charity
A volunteer led, not for profit theatre for Blackburn
Blackburn Empire Theatre is owned and run by a local charity. Every ticket sold, every donation made and every hour volunteered helps to keep this theatre here for the community.
Did you know we are a registered charity? Not many people do, but ever since our creation we have been a Registered Charity with the objective of providing Blackburn with a theatre that would be a focal point for amateur arts and entertainment in the borough and to present the very best in professional entertainment.
The enthusiasm of the original steering committee was infectious and it was not long before many local organisations were contributing ideas and committing themselves to driving forward the work of the Theatre Trust, as it had become.
Over the years countless citizens and companies have made donations to the theatre, from a few pence to literally thousands of pounds. The result is the magnificent theatre you see today. Today’s Board is committed to ensuring the Blackburn Empire remains at the forefront of bringing arts and entertainment to the local community.
As a volunteer led theatre and charity we rely on our volunteers to help all aspects of the theatre run efficiently. We simply could not do it without them, or without the support of people like you.
