Did you know we are a registered charity?
Not many people do, but ever since our creation Blackburn Empire Theatre has been a registered charity, committed to serving the town through arts, entertainment and community activity.
Registered Charity Number: 508435
Our purpose has always been to provide Blackburn with a theatre that would be a focal point for amateur arts and entertainment in the borough, while also aspiring to present the very best in professional entertainment.
Built through local belief and support
The enthusiasm of the original steering committee was infectious and it was not long before many local organisations were contributing ideas and committing themselves wholeheartedly to driving forward the work of what had become the Theatre Trust.
Over the years, countless citizens and companies have made donations to the theatre – from a few pence to many thousands of pounds. The result is the magnificent theatre you see today.
That support has helped shape the Empire into a place with deep local roots and a lasting role in the cultural life of Blackburn.
What that support has made possible
- A lasting theatre for Blackburn
- A home for local amateur arts
- A venue for professional entertainment
- A community asset with character and purpose
Volunteer-led and proud of it
As a volunteer-led theatre and charity, we rely on volunteers to help every aspect of the Empire run efficiently.
Their time, commitment and care make a real difference behind the scenes and front of house, helping us continue to welcome audiences and performers alike.
Looking ahead
Today’s Board remains committed to ensuring Blackburn Empire Theatre stays at the forefront of bringing arts and entertainment to the local community.
That means protecting the theatre’s legacy while continuing to build for the future – supporting live performance, widening access, and keeping the Empire active at the heart of Blackburn.
We simply could not do it without the people who support us.
