A traditional variety show with acts such as those that often appear on the popular Britain’s Got Talent programme comes to the Thwaites Empire Theatre in March. The modern day vaudeville line up will include comedy, illusion, juggling and unusual oddities in the ‘Variety Live’ show on Thursday 9th March.
‘Variety Live’ host, Mark James is an international comedy magician who has performed in over 40 countries worldwide on land and at sea. As well as bringing his own hilarious brand of comedy and magic to the stage, he’ll be introducing three more incredible acts plus a couple of surprises which are suitable for all the family.
Michael Jordan, juggler is one half of illusion duo High Jinx, fresh from a sold out season at the Horseshoe Bar, Blackpool pleasure beach. He has a flair for creating hilarious high energy routines that will have audiences on the edge of their seats.
Doctor Diablo is billed as an ‘Unusualist’ and ‘one of the world’s finest purveyors of the odd and strange’. According to his publicity ‘He takes the things you’ve only read or heard about and puts them right before you live on stage. Every morning he gets up from a bed of nails, walks on glass to the kitchen, eats fire for breakfast, then hammers a nail into his nose before putting on the coat that was just hanging from it.’
International illusionist. Andrew Green completes the line-up. Andrew has performed in summer seasons, tours, television spots and variety theatre for over 20 years. His ground breaking and inventive ideas redefine the art form and present incredible illusions in a unique way.
Theatre Chairman, Michael Berry, said, ‘This is just the sort of show that works well at the Thwaites Empire Theatre, because the intimacy of the auditorium is almost like being in the round. Over 100 years ago there was a history of variety acts entertaining between the films that were shown at the Empire so it’s appropriate that this type of show finds its natural home in our wonderful venue. Andrew has performed here many time and continues to delight our audiences and magic fans.’
