The crowd-pleasing ‘Monday Club’ returns to one of Blackburn’s most popular entertainment venues next month bringing with it community spirit, music and plenty of laughs.
The social event returns to Thwaites Empire Theatre on Monday, 3 August with an all-star line-up including comic Terry Devon, country singer Geoffrey Hilton and Blackpool’s finest singing duo Classic Sound.
The once-a-month gathering takes place on the first Monday of each month and serves as a ‘community hub’ for locals and attracts large numbers each month.
Lifeline
Spring Bank Court in Mill Hill bring groups of residents to the shows, which many describe as a lifeline, giving them an opportunity to enjoy live theatre and get out and about. Regular supporter of the Monday Club, Patricia Tomlinson explained: “It’s a whole afternoon of affordable entertainment, atmosphere and community.
“Whether it’s making new friends and socialising or just getting me out of the house the Monday Club gives me something to look forward to.”
The club has been running for eight years and was launched in a bid to bring retired folk together for an afternoon of light-hearted entertainment.
Dorothy Williamson has been a member of the club for over seven years, she said: “From jazz music to banjo players there has always been a wide variety of entertainment. It’s a worthwhile event and I hope the club continues to grow.”
Guests also receive a complimentary cup of tea and a biscuit.
The next Monday Club is to be held at Thwaites Empire Theatre on Monday, 3 August, 2015 at 2pm.
