Blackburn Empire Theatre proudly welcomes the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Great Britain (NYJO) this February.
Legends of Jazz celebrates the greatest jazz classics ever written, featuring tunes by the undisputable jazz masters, such as Ellington and Monk.
The 23-strong (NYJO) will take to the stage under the direction of deputy Music Director, Winston Rollins, to bring you the best of British big band jazz.
NYJO is a glittering showcase for the UK’s finest young professional jazz musicians, combining a hard-swinging rhythm section and a raft of hugely talented soloists.
Performing around 40 concerts a year both nationally and internationally, NYJO has helped launch the careers of many of the country’s most renowned jazz musicians including Guy Barker, Amy Winehouse, Mark Nightingale and Laura Jurd, as well as Dave Arch (leader of the Strictly Come Dancing band).
Their repertoire will take you on a journey through the jazz greats, combining established big band classics alongside modern works by composers at the cutting-edge of jazz.
“One of the best bands you will ever hear.” Sir John Dankworth, jazz icon
“NYJO has never been conformist, never hewing to one particular line, never known for fawning replications and very deliberately these days a vehicle for new possibilities.” Peter Vacher, Jazzwise
