Lewis Schaffer’s ‘Free until Famous’ at the Empire

Top comic Lewis Schaffer brings his ‘Free until Famous Tour’ to Blackburn’s Thwaites Empire Theatre and is charging absolutely nothing for the privilege.

Lewis Schaffer combines the comedy genes of Joan Rivers and Jackie Mason with the relevance of the freshest British comedians.

The London based comedian was one of the top comics in the home of stand-up comedy, New York City, as house MC at the Comedy Cellar and the Boston Comedy Club in Greenwich Village.

Despite the modest expectations that can accompany a free show, Schaffer argues that the crowd enjoy the show until the end. He said: “My shows are reckless, they’re chancy. They can go wrong and die a completely horrible death or they can go wrong and just be funny. That’s what makes me a truly alternative comedian.

“At the end of show there is invariably relief as they realise ‘well, this wasn’t as bad as we thought it was going to be. We kind of enjoyed it.’”

The free-wheeling comedy style show, which comes to the theatre on Friday, 11 September has been recommended by The Guardian, The Independent, The Times and other national publications.
