This Christmas, Blackburn Empire Theatre and Pendle Productions proudly present the pantomime, Peter Pan, playing from Friday 30th November 2018 to Wednesday 2nd January 2019.
Peter Pan takes the Darling children and the audience on a magical journey to Never Never Land in this classic British pantomime. Peter, the boy who wouldn’t grow up, and his mischievous fairy sidekick, Tinkerbell, visit the nursery of the Darling children, Wendy, John and Michael.
With a sprinkle of pixie dust, their magical journey across the stars begins. In the adventure, Peter and the Darling children come face to face with a ticking crocodile, a fierce Red Indian tribe, a band of bungling pirates, and of course, the villainous Captain Hook.
This story is perfect for the child in all of us. The awe-inspiring flying effects for this production are sure to leave you amazed as Peter flies round the auditorium to touch the hearts of audiences.
The cast of Peter Pan includes veterans of Blackburn Empire Theatre’s professional pantomimes, as well as fresh faces. Wendy Darling’s brothers, John and Michael, are played by eight local children rotating throughout the 60 performances of the show.
The final eight boys were chosen thanks to extensive auditions in September, with rehearsals starting shortly after which included practicing ‘rising up from the ground’ but audiences will have to wait until the show opens on the Friday 30th November to see how that really happens!
Tim Lince, the show’s writer and director, said: “Peter Pan is a fantastic adventure story with a little bit of magic for everyone.
“What better way to celebrate the boy who didn’t want to grow up by casting talented local children to play the parts of John and Michael?
“It also shows the value of creative education in providing a rounded development for all children.”
The young cast will be joined by professional actress, Emily Cross, who started her career on the Blackburn Empire stage as a juvenile dancer in pantomimes.
Emily said: “I’m thrilled to be returning to where it all started for me. Not only am I going to be home for Christmas, but I’ll be playing opposite such a wonderful cast.
“It is a wonderful testament to the wealth of talent that this part of Lancashire has to offer.”
So what can audiences expect?
Pantomime fun that will leave you rolling in the aisles with laughter, fantastic music, dancers provided by five of the most talented local dance schools, a crocodile the likes of which you have never seen before in a fast-paced production that will keep the audience on the edge of their seats, whilst all the time booing the villainy of the evil Captain Hook.
Will Peter save the day? Only you can find out by booking tickets for the adventure of a lifetime!
Catch this production before it flies out of town.
