Empire’s Entertainment Extravaganza – New Season Launch

Thwaites Empire Theatre has announced an exciting new line-up of productions for the autumn season.

The theatre, based on Aqueduct Road, has announced their line-up of musicals, drama, dance and comedy shows.

The season kicks off with plenty of choice for live music fans including an evening of Pink Floyd and Genesis music recreated by two popular tribute bands and a free Acoustic Session and Open Mic Night held in the theatre bar.

Show-stopping musical, Stop The Train will take to the stage with a heady mix of songs, twists, tension and humour. Theatre Goers can also enjoy two Shakespeare productions by local theatre company Ribcaged Productions and Blackburn Drama Club. The professional actors will bring to the stage new and exciting versions of Shakespeare’s The Tempest and Twelfth Night. Steve Wood’s debut play, You’re Never Too Old, marks its first UK tour this autumn. The bittersweet comedy will steal the spotlight with TV stars Diane Keen and Graham Cole taking centre stage at the Empire.

Comedy buffs can enjoy a free show by New York comic, Lewis Schaffer, which has received rave reviews in the national press or an evening filled with Northern charm by Manchester Born Comic, Justin Moorhouse. Other comedy performances include sitcom-style show, The Dressing Room written by Bobby Ball featuring five well-known entertainers. Irish singer, comedian and all-round entertainer, Rose Marie will also entertain audience members with her high octane voice and off the wall sense of humour.

The annual pantomime, which is set to have more ‘sparkle, dazzle and magic’ than ever before, will officially launch the Christmas season at the theatre. Pendle Production’s Jack and the Beanstalk has announced TV Egghead CJ de Mooi will be the star of show. This is a must on everyone’s wish list!

Michael Berry, Chairman of the Theatre, said: “The last twelve months at the Empire have seen large numbers of new people discover the choice and variety we have to offer. We are excited about our new programme for 2015/16 which offers a diverse range of entertainment from song and dance to comedy and drama, not forgetting our successful monthly Monday Club.”

Young theatregoers can pick from a variety of shows including dazzling pantomime style show by Red Light Productions, Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel or The Twits from the book by Roald Dahl.
