Community Theatre Shortlisted for Two Business Awards

One of Blackburn’s volunteer led theatres has been recognised for their creative approach to marketing and community work after being shortlisted for two Blackburn and Darwen Hive Business Awards.

The theatre has been announced as a finalist for both the Buzz and the Creative and Digital Award. Both categories recognise businesses in the creative sector including theatre and attractions or events that have increased footfall around the borough.

In 2015, the Thwaites Empire Theatre recorded the strongest ticket sales for ten years attracting visitors from as far as Belfast. The community theatre also works in partnership with every performing arts and dance school across the borough throughout the year.

Chairman at the Thwaites Empire Theatre, Michael Berry, said: “We are delighted to be shortlisted for two awards which recognise our continuous commitment to the borough and the community. This is testament to everyone’s hard work and we will have our fingers crossed for when the winners are announced in May.”

Finalists will now face an interview and presentation stage with judges made up of sponsors, business leaders and independent experts. The dedicated judging day will take place on April 28 at the Red Rose Suite at Blackburn Rovers Football Club.

Winners will be announced at the black-tie ceremony which takes place on May 26 at the magnificent Blackburn Cathedral.

Khalid Saifullah, chairman of the Hive Network and director of local manufacturing firm Star Tissue UK, comments: “The awards do a great job in highlighting the fantastic businesses we have within the borough and we’re pleased they’ve taken this opportunity to shout about what they do and celebrate the extraordinary people working for them.”
