Some of the UK comedy circuit’s biggest names are coming to the Thwaites Empire Theatre for a one-off night later this month as the venue pilots a programme of new entertainment nights alongside a new drinks policy that allows patrons to enjoy drinks whilst watching a show.
‘Take the Mike’ features international comedian, Daliso Chaponda from Canada who will open the show. Daliso was recently part of BBC Radio 4’s When the Laughter Stops as co-writer and actor.
Also in the line up is MC, Ste Porter who regularly MCs pretty much every comedy club in the north of England and many in the south too. Regular MC spots include Jongleurs, Frog and Bucket, Laughterhouse, Last Laugh, The Hyena, Comedy Central, Manford’s among many others. He also performs in his own right at least three nights a week around the UK
St Helen’s born, Dave Twentyman closes the evening with his warm, friendly act which has been described as affable and quick witted and in the mould of Jason Manford. With over a decade’s experience in comedy, Dave performs at many of the biggest comedy clubs in the UK and overseas as well at the country’s largest music festivals. With jokes and tales that you can’t help but relate to, he endears himself to any audience with ease.
Chairman, Michael Berry, explained, ‘Allowing our audience members to enjoy a drink from the bar has opened up opportunities for the theatre to try different styles of programmes, from folk and jazz nights to an Irish Festival and comedy nights such as this which often work better if people can relax with a drink at their seat. We know that there is a market for comedy nights and we’re willing to give it a go. I would urge people to come and support this event if this is something you’d like to see us do more of.’
Comedians booked to appear at the Thwaites Empire Theatre later this year include Justin Moorhouse, Gary Delaney and Freddie Starr.
